Many Freezer Lab Applications

Laboratory freezers are not only freezers larger than those people use in their own homes, it is a special device used to store important ingredients, many of them dangerous, at constant and regular temperatures. They can be small enough to fit under a table, the size of a normal upright freezer, or even as big as walking in a freezer. While most household freezers are stored between zero and -10 degrees Celsius, a lab freezer can reach -85 degrees Celsius.

This freezer is used for various purposes, such as storing serum and tissue samples, bacterial strains, RNA and DNA samples, and protein extracts. In hospitals they can be used to preserve organs and blood, and at pharmacies to store medicines. Because many of these specimens can be degraded over time, it is important to keep them awake and stable.

General-purpose laboratory freezers can look very similar to home cooling units. Just like home refrigerators, they have shelves both in the unit and at the door, as well as rubber gaskets to prevent cold out. However, this freezer keeps temperatures between -15 to -25 degrees Celsius. They can be locked, and are equipped with an LCD temperature screen to allow you to keep an eye on the temperature without having to open a lab cabinet to check.

Low-temperature freezers, such as the Harris Super Insulated freezer, can store 31.4 cubic feet, and allow nearly 70,000 samples in 35 inventory racks, and can reach temperatures as low as -86 degrees Celsius. There are also super low laboratory freezers, such as Thermo Scientific cold storage freezers, which can reach astounding cryogenic temperatures of -150 degrees Celsius without having to use nissui indonesia liquid nitrogen.

For storage of combustible materials, a laboratory freezer is a must. There are freezers specifically designed for safe storage of CFC-free volatile materials, foamy insulation in place and tightly closed compressors. These products meet OSHA standards, but you must still ensure that you have alarm, monitor and backup features if you freeze critical biological or high-value life sciences.

An important freezer product is a blood bank freezer, which is used to store blood and plasma. An ordinary cooling unit is unable to maintain a fragile temperature balance, especially during intervals when the door can be opened. Blood bank freezers must be durable and, because of their importance in saving lives, require very little maintenance because blood has a very short shelf life. This freezer, like many laboratory freezers, comes with a monitoring system and automatic warning system.

There are many types of laboratory freezers available, including liquid nitrogen freezers which can reach temperatures as low as -190 to -196 degrees Celsius. You can also find a mini walking space freezer that allows storage of nearly 1,000 cubic feet, although it generally doesn't reach the same extreme temperatures.

When looking at a laboratory freezer, you should consider what you will store inside. The finer or dangerous the sample, the more attention is needed. You can find lab freezer accessories such as recorders, CO2 and LN2 backup systems, thermometers and alarm systems to help you track temperatures. Laboratory freezers are a vital part of any science lab, and if treated will last for years.
